There is now no doubt that the last two summer droughts in the Waikato and Victoria and floods north of them are caused by the disgraceful pollution in China.
The 28 February 2009 fantastic rain in the Waikato came from the northwest where there are no hills or mountains to make rain. The coal fired power stations and factories with no filters in India and China, cause large soot particles to enter the atmosphere. These then cause heavy rain to precipitate when lows (clouds) from our Northeast to rise over land. This gives floods in the north of New Zealand and northern Australia and leaves little for further south. The best weather source I know is - http://www.accuweather.com/ You then choose your location and country and enter your nearest town or city. Don’t waste time on the prizes they offer unless you live in America. Learn to read it as it applies to your farm. The wind direction at any one time on your farm doesn't always tell you where the low has come from, because of the anti or cyclone effect. The same low can cause wind from North, South, East and West as it crosses your farm. Sometimes you can see where it is coming from on the TV maps, but the web site above shows it well. In the Waikato, if a low comes from the south, apply your lime or fertiliser, if from the north east and you live in the Waikato, just hope you'll get some of it. If from the north west, you can expect some. It also depends on the size of the low. Small ones may miss you and will have less rain for a shorter time. The above applies in summer, not in winter when south west winds bring too much rain. CSIRO Australia has documented the soot influence from India and China. NIWA in New Zealand was still forecasting global warming in 2008, two years after global figures showed it was cooling. I emailed them in early 2008 and asked them how they could be claiming warming when their own figures didn't show it, and still have had no reply. Vaughan Jones GrazingInfo Ltd Hamilton New Zealand |
